경신학원 서원석 이사장 취임

2023년 12월 28일, 제가 경신학원(경신중·고등학교)
제6대 이사장으로 취임하였습니다.
경신학교는 1885년, 언더우드 선교사님에 의하여 설립되었습니다. 처음에는 길거리를 헤매는 고아들을 모아서 돌보며 공부를 가르치기 시작하였습니다.
이 고아원이 경신학교로 발전하게 되었고 경신학교 대학부에서 조선기독교대학(연세대학교)가 시작되었습니다.

저의 조부이신 서병호 장로님이 1905년, 경신학교를 제1회로 졸업하셨습니다. 서 장로님은 그후 경신학교 교사와 학감으로 근무하셨습니다.  
1914년, 중국으로 망명하셔서 일본에 대항하여 독립운동에 투신하셨습니다. 해방후 귀국하셔서 경신학교 재건에 몰두하셔서 1950년 경신학교 운영이사회 이사장으로 봉사하시고 1953년부터 1960년까지 경신학교 교장으로 봉직하셨습니다.

현재 우리나라의 기독교 학교는 정부의 교육당국의 견제로 인하여 건학이념을 세우는 데에 어려움을 겪고 있습니다. 그럼에도 불구하고 기독교 교육을 이루기 위하여 많은 노력을 하고 있습니다.

제가 경신학원 이사장으로 그 임무를 잘 수행할 수 있도록 기도와 응원을 부탁드립니다.

On December 28 2023, I took office as the 6th chairman of Kyungshin Corporation(Kyungshin Middle and High School).
Kyungshin School was founded by the missionary Horace G. Underwood in 1885. At first, He began to teach studying by gathering and caring for orphans wandering the streets. This orphanage was developed into Kyungshin School, and the Chosun Christian College(Yonsei University) was started in the College Department of Kyungshin School.
My grandfather, Elder Soh Byeong-ho, graduated from Kyungshin School first in 1905. Since then, Elder Soh has served as a teacher and school superintendent at Kyungshin School.
He fled to China in 1914 and devoted himself to the independence movement against Japan. After liberation, he returned to Korea and devoted himself to rebuilding Kyungshin School, served as the chairman of the Kyungshin School Management Board in 1950, and served as the principal of Kyungshin School from 1953 to 1960.
Currently, Christian schools in Korea are having difficulty establishing a founding ideology due to the government's educational authorities' checks. Nevertheless, a lot of effort is being made to achieve Christian education.
